FU Partners with DLS-CSB to Advance Deaf Education and Accessibility
Foundation University just signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) today, September 10, 2026, establishing a partnership to champion Filipino Sign Language (FSL), Deaf education, and campus-wide accessibility.
Spearheaded by Benilde’s School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies (SDEAS), this collaboration focuses heavily on strengthening the capabilities of the FU College of Education. The initiative aims to equip future educators, current faculty members, and university staff with the skills necessary to communicate effectively with Deaf individuals, ultimately building truly inclusive learning environments.
The MOU took place after the successful SDEAS Caravan: Deaf Awareness and Basic FSL Workshop that took place in Foundation university on September 9-10, 2026. Both institutions plan to dive into collaborative research, proactive community advocacy, and joint outreach programs.
Through this partnership, Foundation University is actively turning the ideals of equality into daily classroom practice. This historic step reflects a deliberate choice by the university community to break down social barriers, learn the language of inclusivity, and ensure that no student is left unheard.
The academic alliance directly supports three major United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) dedicated to creating a fairer world:
SDG 4 (Quality Education): Expands access to quality education by preparing future educators to teach in FSL
SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities): Dismantles social barriers for the Deaf community by educating university staff and students on inclusive communication and accessibility.
SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): Illustrates how united academic institutions use collaborative research and community engagement to champion equitable success for every learner.
