Design Sparks: Kalabasa Carving Esquisse 2025

The Kalabasa Carving Esquisse brought together Architecture students, UAPSA representatives, and participants from other departments in a shared display of kalabasa-carving enthusiasm. The event is an annual tradition by the Department of Architecture, and celebrates the craft of precise and deliberate sculpting. Each participant is handed fresh kalabasas to work through, tracing the contours of the squash and guiding the blade in its faces to reveal the intricate interior of the piece.

The event smoothly aligned with the shifting wind of the Halloween season. The participants gathered in the Quezon Park area to present their final output and proudly display the wide range of their imagination. For this year, the organizers have decided on the theme “Design Sparks: When the Future Clicks,” a theme that embraces the growing connection between creativity and technology, and the forward-leaning spirit of the institution. The entries are judged based on the design, thematic interpretation, creativity and distinctiveness of the result.
