Mick Ian Cornelia

Foundation University Political Science delegates delivered a strong showing at the 2025 Model United Nations held at the University of St. La Salle - Bacolod. The team competed against nearly eighty delegates from other universities, and earned recognition for their composure, analytical precision, and command in the formal procedures of the United Nations proceedings.

Two of the delegates shined in their committees to debate and negotiate in high-level policy discussions. Reyna Jean Taguibulusan, who represented Ukraine in the UN Human Rights Council, was named Best Committee Member for her performance in handling complex discussions on human rights issues. Rhea Flor Ricafort, serving as the delegate of New Zealand in the UNESCO committee, also received the Best Committee Member award for her command of the topics and skill in building consensus among diverse member states.

Other members of the delegation, Jhewelle Rebusquillo, Len Ching Russiana, and Mary Anthonette Tito, demonstrated methodical research practices and steady diplomatic conduct in their respective committees. Each delegate contributed to the team’s collective effort in promoting dialogue and upholding the Model UN’s principles of cooperation and diplomatic engagement about issues that shape international policy.

The delegates were encouraged to position their work in the UN Sustainable Development Goals, guided by the strong initiative of the university to expand and incorporate global awareness in the academic programs. In particular, the discussions of the delegates centered on SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) and SDG 4 (Quality Education). This resolute participation is an example of applied learning and reflects a clear understanding of the objectives, in pursuit of connecting the global frameworks to real-world implications.

Coach Myck Eian Torrino Cornelia, a faculty member in the department and a mentor of the delegation, is credited with the effort to train the team through rigorous weeks of preparation. The team’s performance at the conference is nothing short of exceptional and reinforces the department’s growing and concrete dedication to practical political training and active participation in inter-university forums.
