FU Academic Opening Sparks New Era for AY 2026-2027
Foundation University held its Academic Opening Program for AY 2026-2027 at the Sofia Soler Sinco Hall last September 11, 2026.
This year’s guest speaker is Atty. Marcelino C. Maxino, who is a true-blue Greyhound. He has been at Foundation University as a student, teacher, administrator, and university president.
In fact, Atty. Maxino coined the term “greyhound” for Foundationites. This happened back in 1955 when he was a sports editor for the university paper. He chose to call the university athletes “Greyhounds” because of the school colors (maroon and gray) and because greyhounds were fast and fierce creatures.
Atty. Maxino earned multiple degrees from Foundation University. He got highest honors in Associate in Arts (Pre-Law), magna cum laude in Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in Jurisprudence, and cum laude in Bachelor of Laws.
During his message, Atty. Maxino reminded everyone of the importance of the need to learn how to learn. "Knowledge does not end at any time. It keeps growing." That’s why he challenges both students and faculty to always keep up. "After all, the function of a university is to create new knowledge."
Addressing the advancement of artificial intelligence, Atty. Maxino also said that it has been helpful when it comes to research. As he puts it, “You can keep up with the changing times. You just need to know how, and the only way is to continue learning.”
Following his inspiring message on the lifelong pursuit of learning, Atty. Maxino generously donated copies of his published books to the Foundation University library.
The energy was electric as our university heads and administrators were introduced to the student body. New students also shared their first impressions of Foundation University. Lastly, the latest exam passers were recognized for bringing pride to the Greyhound community.
The program ended with FU President Victor Vicente “Dean” Guzman Sinco saying that “the universe is smiling upon us.” Indeed, good things have been happening in Foundation University, and this is just the beginning. There is more to come for AY 2026-2027.
