The glow of the gigantic LED screen amplified the traditional footlights and spotlights of the Gabii sa Pasundayag. President Dean's handpicked theme—a tradition sustained every year—set the stage for the extravagant event, catapulting the 76th anniversary of the institution into a remote and unfamiliar age in the future. For the 76th anniversary, he appended the line "Your Future Clicks" which cast a new light over the hand-painted backdrops and analog charm that characterized the grandeur of the previous years of the Pasundayag.
The eleven departments poured months of preparation into their entries. As the Kasadyaan Festival heightened the rhythm of the campus life, the groups were fielding their presentations, developing elaborate, hand-sewn costumes and oversized implements that pushed the boundaries of the university stage show.
The full roster of the presentations include:
College of Hospitality Management - Space Carnival
College of Education - Digital Dreamscape
Foundation Preparatory Academy - Eco Future
Department of Architecture and Fine Arts - Future Beats
College of Nursing - Neon Utopia
College of Business Administration - Beyond Earth
College of Computer Studies - Futuristic Fashion Runway
College of Arts and Sciences - Quantum Leap
School of Industrial Engineering and Technology - Time Travelers
College of Criminology - Galactic Voyage
College of Agriculture - Interstellar Reality
When the dust settled, the College of Arts and Sciences emerged as the overall champion. Their winning presentation, "Quantum Leap," made an immediate visual statement with a striking Dusty Rose Clay and Terracotta palette. The narrative follows a crew of interstellar explorers, navigating a series of imposing, rectangular frames that evoke the mysterious monoliths from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
The production was praised for their sophisticated but coherent narrative, illustrating, among many things, the hope of transcending our primitive fear of the unknown towards a hopeful vision of a connected future. The seamless integration of their live performance with the digital canvas overhanging the proscenium of the Sofia Soller Sinco Hall, and the pulsating score that swelled to the crescendo of their final act, left the audience breathless.
The College of Nursing claimed the first runner-up trophy with their "Neon Utopia" routine, while the College of Criminology's "Galactic Voyage" secured the next place.
The night's special awards were split between the top contenders. The College of Nursing bagged the Best in Costume and Most Creative Presentation, while The College of Criminology produced the individual standout, winning Best Performer. The champion Arts and Sciences team proved the mastery of their movement and direction after sweeping Best in Choreography and Best Pasundayag Choreographer at the same time.
