The College of Nursing secured 3rd Place for Best Poster Presentation during the 66th Association of Deans of Philippine Colleges of Nursing (ADPCN) National Convention held on October 2–3, 2025, at the Fiesta Pavilion, Manila Hotel.
The winning entry, “Parental Perspectives on the Psychological Impact of Screen Time among School-Aged Children in Dumaguete City: An Explanatory Sequential Mixed-Methods Study,” was presented by Mr. Kenneth Joe Corales, RN, LPT. The research team behind the study are emerging scholars and innovators in nursing education: Nika Klemann, Bryce Christian Enriquez, Aizl Inao, Micah Keziah Jugo, Cailyn Jhyl Ontoy, Alexis Jane Paera, Charlene Pulanco, Jemar Tubaing, and Corales. The goal of the paper was to examine and interpret how digital exposure influences the psychological well-being of children, integrating quantitative findings with the narratives of parents navigating the realities of digital childhood.
Two other research posters from FUCN were also featured in the convention: “The Lived Experience of Parents Caring for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder” and “A Phenomenological Inquiry into the Lives of Elderly Night Workers.” These studies reflect the College’s sustained focus on socially responsive education, which aligns research with community realities and contributes to local health discourse in the country.
The ADPCN National Convention remains one of the foremost gatherings in Philippine nursing education, drawing over 400 nursing schools and 800 participants nationwide. From among these, only 40 research posters were selected for presentation, placing FUCN among the leading institutions recognized for research excellence and innovation.
Dean Jethri Ken Carlo M. Catalan expressed his pride and appreciation for the collective effort of students and faculty mentors in producing research that is both rigorous and socially meaningful.
The College also celebrates the publication of two previous research papers in the 2024 issue of the Philippine Journal of Nursing Education (PJNE), which further establish FUCN’s growing body of student-led studies exploring mental health, caregiving, and the shifting contexts of health behavior in Philippine society.
This is part of a broader initiative to expand the reach and depth of nursing research and community engagement. It contributes to the university’s continuing developments that strengthen and reinforce the Sustainable Development Goals through education, outreach, and applied scholarship.

As part of this ongoing agenda, the department partnered with the Institute for Dementia Care Asia, Negros Polymedic Hospital, The Market Place Dumaguete, and the Silliman Alumni Association Dumaguete Chapter for the Dementia Awareness and INDAK Program at The Market Place earlier on September. This was a large gathering that brought together senior citizens, Zumba instructors from Bayawan City, and participants from Dumaguete and nearby municipalities for a day of movement and social connection. Through aerobic activities combined with public health education, the program maintains the importance of physical activity in dementia prevention while encouraging inclusion and stronger intergenerational ties within the community.
