Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering

Systems Are Us!

The Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (BSIE) is a comprehensive
undergraduate degree program that prepares students to design, improve, and optimize
complex systems that involve people, materials, equipment, information, and energy. Rooted
in principles of engineering, mathematics, business, and social sciences, the program equips
students with the skills and knowledge to solve real-world problems and enhance efficiency,
productivity, and quality across various industries.

Industrial Engineering (IE) focuses not only on technical proficiency but also on strategic
thinking, leadership, and innovation. BSIE graduates are trained to analyze operations,
design workflows, manage supply chains, develop integrated systems, and implement
continuous improvement initiatives in all types of industries.

School of Industrial Engineering Education:

The School of Industrial Engineering and Technology (SIET) continues to lead in delivering
top-tier education and training that prepares students for the dynamic industrial landscape.
The Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (BSIE) program recently achieved Level II
Re-accredited status from the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges,
and Universities (PAASCU), reaffirming its commitment to national and global academic
standards.

SIET students and faculty are actively involved in research, with a strong focus on operations
research, operations management, complex systems (system dynamics), ergonomics, and
safety. Their innovative work was recently showcased at the 15th Industrial Engineering
Research Conference (IERC) hosted by the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJR),
underscoring the school’s growing influence in the field.

To ensure professional readiness, all third-year BSIE students have earned their Safety
Officer 2 (SO2) certification, equipping them with vital skills in occupational safety and
health, highly valued by today’s employers.

Beyond the classroom, SIET fosters lifelong learning through a series of student-led seminars
that explore current trends, technologies, and industry insights. With its focus on academic

excellence, hands-on training, and real-world preparedness, SIET offers a holistic and future-
ready engineering education.

Within 3 – 5 years of graduation, graduates of the Foundation University undergraduate
program in Industrial Engineering will have:

• Successfully applied core IE knowledge and skills for the continuous
improvement on efficiency, productivity and/or quality of products produced
or services provided by their organization.
• Significantly pursued advanced professional degrees, qualifications
for global employment, professional training, or the industrial engineering
certification.
• Demonstrated professional and intellectual growth as supervisors, managers
or leaders in industrial engineering, and as useful citizens in their
communities.

➢ What is Industrial Engineering?
Industrial Engineering is concerned with the design, improvement and installation of
integrated systems of men, materials and equipment. It draws upon specialized knowledge
and skills in the mathematical, social, and physical sciences together with the principles and
methods of engineering analysis and design to specify, predict and evaluate the results to be
obtained from such systems.

The prime of objectives of industrial engineering are (1) to increase productivity, (2) to
eliminate waste and non-value-added activities, and (3) to come up with the optimum use of
scarce resources that would bring out the best results.

–American Institute of Industrial Engineers (AIIE)
The focus of Industrial Engineering is how to improve processes or design things that are
more efficient and waste less money, time, raw resources, man-power and energy while
following safety standards and regulations. Industrial engineers uses knowledge of
Mathematics, Physics, and Social Sciences to analyze, design, predict and evaluate the results
and roadblocks of processes and devices.

➢ Is there a board examination for Industrial Engineering?
There is currently no government-mandated board examination for Industrial
Engineering in the Philippines. Instead, Industrial Engineers may pursue professional
certifications administered by the Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers (PIIE).
These include the Certified Industrial Engineer (CIE) and Professional Industrial
Engineer (PIE) titles, which serve as alternative credentials to demonstrate expertise and

professionalism in the field. Globally, Industrial Engineering is often treated similarly, with
career advancement typically based on certifications, experience, and specialized skills
rather than government licensure.

Acknowledgment of IE Certification Recognition and ASEAN Engineers' Registry Requirement

The certification of Industrial Engineering graduates and practitioners under the
Industrial Engineering Certification Board (IECB) of the Philippine Institute of Industrial
Engineers (PIIE) is a certification program recognized by the Philippine Technological
Council (PTC), the umbrella organization of professional engineering organizations in
the Philippines, each representing a specific engineering field of practice. This recognition
by the PTC is the same recognition it bestows to the members of the other engineering
professional organizations who pass the board examinations given by the Philippine
Regulation Commission (PRC).

As a member of the PTC, the Certified Industrial Engineers (CIE) and Professional
Industrial Engineers (PIE) registered with IECB are also qualified to apply for
international certification as Industrial Engineers, among them the ASEAN Engineer
Registry as Associate ASEAN Engineer and ASEAN Engineer, respectively.
